Candidates who wish to apply for Branch Postmaster (BPM), Assistant Branch Postmaster (ABPM), or Dak Sevak must carefully check all the conditions before filling out the application form. Here is a complete and simple explanation of the eligibility criteria.

India Post has made the Gramin Dak Sevak (GDS) Recruitment 2026 official under the Online Engagement Schedule-I. To fill open positions like Branch Postmaster (BPM), Assistant Branch Postmaster (ABPM), and Dak Sevak in different postal circles around the country, the recruitment is taking place.
The official GDS portal has an online application process, and candidates must first complete One-Time Registration before they can submit their application. There won’t be any written tests or interviews. Instead, a system-generated merit list will be used to choose candidates based only on their 10th standard marks. Candidates who make the cut will be called in to have their documents checked. If everything checks out and all the necessary steps are followed, they will be hired.
Age Limit
As per the official rules:
- Minimum age: 18 years
- Maximum age: 40 years
Age will be calculated on the last date of the application submission.
Relaxation in upper age limit is given to reserved categories:
- SC/ST: 5 years
- OBC: 3 years
- PwBD: 10 years (additional relaxation as per category rules)
There is no upper age relaxation for EWS candidates.
Educational Qualification
The most important part of the eligibility criteria is education.
- Candidates must pass 10th standard (Secondary School Examination) from a recognized board.
- Passing marks in mathematics and English are compulsory.
- The candidate must have studied the local language of the concerned postal circle at least up to 10th standard.
Marks obtained in the 10th class will be used for preparing the merit list.
Other Requirements
Apart from age and education, candidates must also meet the following conditions:
- Basic knowledge of computers
- Knowledge of cycling
- Must have another source of income for livelihood
- Should be medically fit
Candidates who were dismissed or removed from government service earlier are not eligible to apply.
